The Electric
Houseboat Patent This Patent has tremendous potential. It is a whole
new concept to the Houseboat world. The Claims of this Patent are destine to
become the future of houseboats. The same concept has been very successfully
used for years on diesel locomotives, cruise ships, river cruise boats, cargo
ships, submarines and other Navy ships. There are thousands of houseboats
from coast to coast and Houseboat Magazine estimates 500 new houseboats are
sold every year, and there circulation is 25000. Since not all houseboat owners
receive Houseboat Magazine and there are rental boats all across the county
there estimates are probably very conservative.
This Patent is for the Electric Powered Houseboat. There have been two of these houseboat built and
they are very successful as rental boats at Wisdom Dock on Dale Hollow Lake,
Albany Kentucky. They have 150 KW diesel generators that power a 100 HP three
phase electric motor, which in turn propels the houseboat. This motor
produces constant torque at all speeds. The generator has sufficient power to
operate the propulsion motor, the hot tub, the electric range, HVAC unit,
refrigeration devices and several other amenities you might find in a well
equipped home. This system eliminates all the gear changing, idle
speed limitations, carbon monoxide, and the maintenance problem associated
with present day houseboats. All of the shortcomings of the present day
houseboats were considered when designing and pursuing the Patent on the
Electric Houseboat. The houseboat industry had never built an electric
propelled houseboat before these boats were built as the model boats for this
patent “Electric Houseboat” US 6,957,990 B2 issued on October 25, 2005. This
